Disney officially announced that Emilia Clarke will be joining the Star Wars universe in the upcoming Han Solo prequel, the studio made the announcement late Friday night. Clarke won’t be the first star of ‘Game of Thrones’ that has crossed into the Star Wars franchise, fellow GoT castmate Gwendoline Christie was featured in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as Captain Phasma. Fans of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” know Christie best as the stalwart protector Brienne of Tarth.
In the announcement Disney stated, “Clarke, known for her stirring portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, will join the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. Clarke’s role will round out a dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.” The cast is filling out quite nicely, it was announced earlier this year that Alden Ehrenreich will be taking the lead as young Han Solo, and earlier this month it was confirmed that Donald Glover will be taking the role of Lando Calrissian.
The new film with young Han Solo is set prior to the original Star Wars trilogy. Disney has yet to disclose the name of the Han Solo film, which will most likely be revealed after “Episode VIII” hits theaters. The film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and is set for release in 2018.
Fans are just a few weeks away from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which will release on December 16, 2016. That installment in the franchise was directed by Gareth Edwards, working off a screenplay written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. “Rogue One” stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen and Ben Mendelsohn. You can count on a wide-array of hints, teases and surprises to hit the internet once the film opens in theaters, and “Rogue One” is expected to dominate the box-office through the month of December.
