Whovians can get their first look at the highly-anticipated “Doctor Who Christmas Special,’ thanks to an early upload from BBC America.
The network has begun teasing the Christmas special for Doctor Who, which has become an annual treat for fans of the show. This year’s episode is called “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” and the clip was revealed today as part of BBC One’s telethon for Children in Need (BBC’s UK corporate charity).
You can watch the clip below, or here on the official BBC Children in Need YouTube channel.
You probably won’t need to set a reminder for the date because the Christmas Special airs on Christmas Day. In the new episode The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat. Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids, Little Britain) returns to the series as Nardole and Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) joins the cast in a guest starring role as Grant.
The special is written by Steven Moffat, executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Peter Bennett and directed by Ed Bazalgette (Poldark). It was shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales Roath Lock Studios. The new season of Doctor Who will premiere alongside the Doctor Who spin-off Class in Spring 2017 on BBC AMERICA.
On a side-note, Doctor Who fans should also be sure to watch “Doctor Who: The Power of the Daleks,” which will air on Saturday, November 19 on BBCA. The special animated episode will air 50 years after its only UK broadcast, after being regenerated with a brand new hand-drawn black and white animation and synchronized with a digitally remastered recording of the original 1966 audio.
The countdown to Doctor Who has begun, only a few more weeks left of waiting and you’ll be off on another adventure with a brand-new companion.
