Assassin’s Creed trailer takes on the Spanish Inquisition
FOX has released a new trailer for the action-adventure ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ which will fly into theaters later this winter.
The film, which is based on the popular video-game franchise created by Ubisoft, has an impressive cast behind it – led by Michael Fassbender. Fans of the game franchise can look for clues in the new trailer below, which was uploaded earlier today by the studio.
In the adaptation, Callum Lynch (played by Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain by using a special machine that unlocks his genetic memories. This is similar to the video-game, and the film follows Callum as he discovers that he is descended from a mysterious secret society called the Assassins. Throughout the story Callum amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day.
Joining Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender (X-Men: Days of Future Past, 12 Years a Slave) in the film isanother Academy Award winner – Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, La Vie en Rose). Also featured in the film are Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Michael K. Williams.
The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (Snowtown, Macbeth); produced by New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall; co-financed by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures; and distributed by 20th Century Fox.
Assassin’s Creed fans can catch the film when it opens in theaters worldwide on December 21st, 2016.
