Twitter details Periscope Producer to take on Facebook Live
Brands and media outlets have certainly taken a shine to Facebook LIVE, and Twitter is joining the marketing movement with an update to the company’s popular Periscope app.
Twitter officially unveiled Periscope Producer today, introducing a new way for brands, media organizations and other live video creators to share high-quality, produced live video on Periscope and Twitter. By broadcasting live video with Periscope Producer, Twitter partners can broadcast higher-quality content through external cameras and software and support the engagement elements found on Periscope and Twitter with minimal setup.
“Allowing people to create and share produced live video on Periscope has always been part of our vision and opens up new types of content for everyone to watch live,” said Kayvon Beykpour, CEO of Periscope. “Periscope allows anyone to watch something with an audience, and now they’re able to watch daily shows, large and small-scale events and other live video with compelling content from creators they know and love. High-quality, produced live video can now be shared anywhere through a Tweet.”
With the ability to utilize their professional-grade cameras and streaming software, partners can easily create and Tweet live video with higher production value than previously enabled on Periscope. Multiple partners, including ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, CBS 12, Estadao, Fusion, Louis Vuitton, The News & Documentary Emmy Awards, The Ringer, Walt Disney Studios and XBox UK have already seen increased engagement and grown their audiences with produced live content on Periscope and Twitter.
“Using Periscope Producer to broadcast on Twitter helped us deliver important safety updates to our audience at a critical time when many were without power and relying on mobile devices to stay informed,” said John Colucci, Social Media Director, Sinclair Broadcast Group.
“Given the immediacy of Twitter’s platform and our reputation for covering breaking news, Periscope Producer offers a great opportunity to further grow our audience and deliver high-quality, live video content as news events unfold,” said Richard Evans, Head of Social Media, Sky News.
Periscope Producer is available to select Twitter brand partners, media organizations and live video creators. Partners interested in setting this up can learn more by speaking with their Twitter representative and applying at t.co/periscopeproducer.
