Disney releases the second Star Wars Rogue One trailer

DisneyDisney

A promised yesterday, Disney released a brand-new trailer for ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, and fans should be pretty excited to see it. We are almost to ‘Star Wars’ launch day here in the United States, and every trailer teases just a few more moments from the highly-anticipated film.

Rogue One is set to release in just a few weeks, marking the first time a spinoff story set in the Star Wars franchise has ever made it to the big-screen. We think it may do a little better than the spinoff TV movie, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, but only time will tell. Disney has quite a few spinoff films in the works, including one with young a Han Solo played by Alden Ehrenreich. That film will be directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with Jon Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan writing the screenplay. There is also talk about a Yoda standalone film, but just like the Master Jedi himself, little is known about that project at this time.

The new installment in the beloved franchise will release on December 16, 2016 and will most likely dominate the box-office for a few weeks after its premiere in local-theaters. The film takes place just before the events in ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,’ the 1977 film when the world met Luke Skywalker for the first time, and will follow the Rebellion as they prepare to steal the plans to the Death Star.

Rogue One was directed by Gareth Edwards, working off a screenplay that was written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy. The film will star Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Riz Ahmed, Forest Whitaker and Diego Luna. With James Earl Jones and Warwick Davis returning to the franchise as well.

Much of the story is still a secret at this point, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to most Star Wars fans. Most of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was still a mystery right up until the moment the film released in theaters across the country. You can watch and re-watch the trailer above for clues about the upcoming film, and set a reminder to clear your schedule on December 16, 2016.
