Disney original movie ‘The Swap’ pulls in over 7M viewers

Disney popular line of original movies continued its hot-streak this month with the premiere of ‘The Swap,’ taking the top-spot across most youth demographics. Disney premiered ‘The Swap’ last Friday night, right after a Halloween-themed episode of the Disney Channel comedy series “Bizaardvark.” Both were presented during Disney Channel’s annual “Monstober” programming event, and each series received a major boost in viewers.

The original movie features two popular actors from other Disney TV series, Peyton List (Disney Channel’s “BUNK’d”) and Jacob Bertrand (Disney XD’s “Kirby Buckets”). “The Swap” is now currently the #1 cable TV telecast of the third-quarter to-date, and taking into account the movie’s premiere, and its encores, ‘The Swap’ has already reached over 7.2 million total viewers.

The night started with an all-new episode of “BUNK’d,” which if you remember also featured Peyton List, and that generated an 8-month ratings highs in total viewers for the show – totaling 2.2 million for the night. According to Disney’s announcements, BUNK’d has reached 65M viewers since February 12, 2016. The night continued with a new episode of “Bizaardvark,” which delivered its second highest-rated telecast of all time in total viewers, reaching 2.1 million. The only episode to beat last Friday’s telecast of ‘Bizaardvark’ was the show’s Summer 2016 launch back in June. That show has now reached over 38 million total viewers to-date.

“The Swap” was written by Charlie Shahnaian (“The Redemption of Henry Myers”) and Shari Simpson (“Sweet Sweet Summertime”), based on the book of the same name by Megan Shull. It was directed by Jay Karas (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Kirby Buckets”) and executive produced by Fernando Szew, Robyn Snyder and Gaylyn Fraiche of MarVista Entertainment; Kim Todd and Nicholas Hirst for Original Pictures; and Sean McNamara. Ric Nish serves as producer.
