Marvel was the talk of the town after dropping its first full-length trailer for ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’ this evening. Not only did the company release the highly-anticipated trailer for the series, Marvel also confirmed that famed sci-fi actor Sigourney Weaver will be playing the villain in the upcoming first season of ‘The Defenders,’ which will also include Iron Fist.
Weaver’s exact role in the series is still a secret at this time, but the popular actor should be a welcomed addition for superhero fans everywhere. The new “Marvel’s Iron Fist” trailer was first shown during a New York Comic Con panel on Saturday, and the crowd rightly exploded with applause at the announcements.
This will be the fourth Marvel series on Netflix, the studio has found terrific success with “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” and “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” all of which serve as an intro to each main-character before they join forces and become “Marvel’s The Defenders.” That series is still a long while off at this point however.
The success of “The Punisher” on Daredevil season 2 was an unexpected bonus for Marvel, the character was such a hit that Netflix will give the anti-hero his own spin-off series sometime in the future. Speaking of ‘The Punisher,’ Deborah Ann Woll from Daredevil will join the cast of the spin-off series in season one.
Rosario Dawson was also on-hand at NYCC this weekend to confirm that she will be appearing on Iron Fist. The character that Dawson plays (known as Claire Temple) has also appeared in Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. All in all, Marvel’s Netflix series have been one success story after another. Fans spend hour after hour streaming the popular episodes, almost as quickly as they are released. In fact, Netflix recently suffered an outage at the exact moment when Luke Cage was released on the streaming service, leading many to think that the Netflix servers couldn’t handle the overwhelming traffic that the series put upon the server.
“Marvel’s Iron Fist” debuts on Netflix March 17, 2017.
