CBS sets date for Tony Awards, nominations announced in May

CBSCBS

The 71st Annual Tony Awards are still a few months away at this point, but if you are going to be hosting a Tony-watching party you might enjoy setting the early reminder. CBS confirmed this week that the awards show will air live from New York City on June 11, 2017.

Ahead of the official awards ceremony are the nominations of course, those will go out on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Just as they were last year, the TONY AWARDS will be broadcast live from New York City on Sunday at 8:00pm and will last for about three-hours. The TONY Awards, which honors theater professionals for distinguished achievement on Broadway, has been broadcast on CBS since 1978.

Next year marks the 71st anniversary of the TONY Awards, which were first held on April 6, 1947, at the Waldorf Astoria’s Grand Ballroom. The ceremony is presented by Tony Award Productions, which is a joint venture of the Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, which founded the Tonys.

Once again, the nominations for the 2017 TONY Awards will be announced on Tuesday, May 2 but no official host has been assigned at this time.
