A new horror-thriller is waiting to scare you in 2017. STX has released the first trailer for ‘The Bye Bye Man,’ which will release this winter. The studio teases the film stating, “People commit unthinkable acts every day. Time and again, we grapple to understand what drives a person to do such terrible things. But what if all of the questions we’re asking are wrong? What if the cause of all evil is not a matter of what…but who?”
The film comes from the same producer that brought you the hit “Oculus” and “The Strangers”. The new horror-thriller hopes to “expose the evil behind the most unspeakable acts committed by man.” Of course what those acts are will remain a secret until the film hits theaters, but you can get an idea of where this movie is going from the trailer below.

When three college friends stumble upon the horrific origins of the Bye Bye Man, they discover that there is only one way to avoid his curse: don’t think it, don’t say it. But once the Bye Bye Man gets inside your head, he takes control. You can watch the first official trailer for the new film below. Parts of the story seem like Beetlejuice, while other parts are almost like the old ‘Bloody Mary’ game that you might have played when you were a kid. It usually involved saying Bloody Mary in a mirror three times and someone turning out the lights, and usually ended with everyone screaming out of the bathroom. This seems a tad darker than that game.

The film was directed by Stacy Title, and is based on a short story written by Robert Damon Schneck. The screenplay for the film was written by Jonathan Penner. The cast includes Douglas Smith, Lucien Laviscount and Cressida Bonas. Horror fans will get a chance to take on the Bye Bye Man when it hits theaters on January 13, 2017.
