Universal premieres a new ‘Ouija: Origin of Evil’ trailer
Universal released a new trailer for the horror-thriller ‘Ouija: Origin of Evil’ this week, this marks the second official trailer released from the studio. The film will hit theaters just in time for the Halloween season, releasing in late October. The film will be a follow-up to the original hit ‘Ouija’ which was released back in 2014. The original installment was a big hit for Universal at the time, opening at number one with almost $20M. The film went on to make over $50M for the studio, it’s one of many modestly budgeted horror-movies that have paid off big for Universal over the last few years.
The studio explains the film stating, “In 1965 Los Angeles, a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their séance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. When the youngest daughter is overtaken by the merciless spirit, this small family confronts unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.”
This new installment will have a new cast, this time starring Elizabeth Reaser, Annalise Basso, Lulu Wilson and Henry Thomas.
Ouija: Origin of Evil is produced by Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Purge series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (The Purge and Insidious series), alongside Hasbro’s Brian Goldner (Transformers and G.I. Joe series) and Stephen Davis (Ouija). Mike Flanagan directs from a screenplay he wrote with his Oculus and Before I Wake collaborator, Jeff Howard, and Universal will distribute the film worldwide.
The original film was directed by Stiles White, working off a script that was written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White. The first film in the series starred Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto and Daren Kagasoff.
Horror fans can set a reminder to watch the thriller on the big-screen this October, the film will officially launch on October 21, 2016.
