Lionsgate teased more of the ‘Blair Witch’ reboot this week, releasing a new trailer for horror-fans to devour ahead of the September premiere. The film, which was directed by Adam Wingard, will once again return to the forests of Maryland to scare up a new story surrounding the infamous Blair witch.
The project will have a new cast, this time featuring James Allen McCune, Callie Hernandez, Brandon Scott, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid and Wes Robinson. The screenplay was written by Simon Barrett. In the film a group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister, who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch.
At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined. The studio teases the film stating, “It’s been 20 years since James’s sister and her two friends vanished into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland while researching the legend of the Blair Witch, leaving a trail of theories and suspicions in their wake.” This is the second trailer that has been released for the film, you can watch it below.
The original film, which spawned quite a few parodies and sequels, was released back in 1999. That installment was directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, who also wrote the script. The original starred Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams and Joshua Leonard.
Horror fans won’t have to wait that long to watch the new film on the big-screen, Lionsgate will release the ‘Blair Witch’ in theaters on September 16, 2016.
