The new series ‘Alone Together,’ from Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer of Lonely Island, has entered into production this week. The series was announced earlier this year as part of Freeform’s gigantic expansion into original content. Now that the show has started production, the network has announced a few casting updates, and we know who is directing the pilot.
The production teams began work on the series in Los Angeles this week. The network had previously confirmed that Esther Povitsky (“Lady Dynamite,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and Benji Aflalo (“Not Safe with Nikki Glaser”) would star in the the comedy, and now Freeform has cast guest stars Chris D’Elia (“Undateable”), Ginger Gonzaga (“Wrecked”), Edgar Blackmon (“Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping”), Hayley Marie Norman (“Adam Ruins Everything”), Kamilla Alnes (“American Horror Story”), Jim O’Heir (“Parks and Recreation”) and Justine Lupe (“Younger”).
If this is the first time you have heard of the upcoming series, “Alone Together” is a half-hour, single-camera comedy about two overlooked millennial misfits from different backgrounds trying to make their way into the vain and status-obsessed culture of Los Angeles. The duo find salvation in their male/female strictly platonic friendship while suffering the barbs of the beauty and wealth obsessed culture.
Esther Povitsky, Benji Aflalo and Eben Russell (“Last Man Standing”) serve as writers and executive producers on the pilot. Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer, Billy Rosenberg and Hunter Covington also serve as executive producers. Daniel Gray Longino (“Lady Dynamite,” “Portlandia”) will direct the pilot. Freeform will confirm a premiere date, offer up a trailer, and will most likely announce a few more guest stars as production moves along.
