The new Ocean’s Eight film is packing quite a cast into its lineup. It was reported today that Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina will join the cast of the upcoming caper. The actors will join Sandra Bullock, Elizabeth Banks and Cate Blanchett in the film, this according to Deadline.

The all-female cast is sure to attract the attention of moviegoers, even though much about the film is currently under wraps. Currently the film is going by the title Ocean’s Eight, though an official title has not been released at this time. According to reports, Warner Bros. is is in the final stages of castings, but the film will be part of the heist franchise which began with the remake of Ocean’s 11 back in 2001. Since that time Brad Pitt and George Clooney have made Ocean’s 12, and Ocean’s 13, and all three films shot to the top of the box-office.

Shooting will begin in New York this Fall if everything goes according to plan, but we don’t know if this will be a reboot, a prequel or a spinoff. While the four new names certainly have plenty of starpower, we should point out that this project has been in the works for a very long time. Over the years almost every major female lead in Hollywood has been reported to part of the film. Hopefully, since the film is so close to production, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, and Awkwafina will be finalized and we will get an official cast-list from the studio.

What we do know so far is that the film will be directed by Gary Ross*, who wrote the script with Olivia Milch. The film is about to his production in a couple of weeks, so an official announcement and a few teasers are sure to be in the works from Warner Bros. Pictures.
