xXx The Return of Xander Cage trailer broke a record for Paramount Pictures

If trailer views and social-sharing are any indication of how well Paramount’s “xXx The Return of Xander Cage” will do in theaters, now would be good time to buy stock.

The new trailer for the Paramount Pictures and Revolution Studios installment to the xXx franchise generated more than 100 million views across Facebook and YouTube, all in just the first week of its release. While that may be impressive, better still is the fact that the trailer is the fastest to reach that number for any Paramount Pictures film in its long history.

The trailer, which offers fans a sneak peek at Vin Diesel reprising his iconic role as an extreme athlete-turned-superspy, debuted online July 19. “xXx: THE RETURN OF XANDER CAGE” opens in theaters January 20, 2017.

The third chapter of the popular franchise is another combination of spy-thriller and action blockbuster. The story finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box.

Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. The film is directed by D.J. Caruso and produced by Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Vin Diesel and Samantha Vincent.
