After weeks of rumors and speculation, Marvel has officially announced that Brie Larson will play Carol Danvers in Marvel’s new “Captain Marvel” feature. The news was confirmed today at San Diego Comic-Con, in-front of a roaring crowd.
Fans exploded into cheers at the event, the popular Oscar-winning actress appeared at the Marvel Studios Hall H panel to confirm her role in the Captain Marvel film. Larson was also on-hand to promote her upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures’ film Kong: Skull Island, which is set to debut later this year.
Marvel stopped short of discussing the details of Larson’s role. Rumors of the actor’s involvement in the Captain Marvel franchise have been circulating since June. It was only confirmed this afternoon that Larson would be taking on the role of air force pilot Carol Danvers.
It was a standout year for Larson in 2016, the actor won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in the indie hit “Room,” which was an instant with critics and moviegoers across the world.
As for “Captain Marvel,” that film is expected to be released March 8, 2019.
