The new film was directed by Dennis Gansel, working off a screenplay written by Philip Shelby and Tony Mosher. The film features Jason Statham, Jessica Alba and Tommy Lee Jones. Fans of the original can watch the first Mechanic Resurrection trailer below, the film is set to release later this summer.
In the film Arthur Bishop [Jason Statham] returns as the Mechanic in the sequel to the 2011 action thriller. When the deceitful actions of a cunning but beautiful woman [Jessica Alba] force him to return to the life he left behind, Bishop’s life is once again in danger as he has to complete an impossible list of assassinations of the most dangerous men in the world.
The original film released back in 2011, that installment was directed by Simon West with a screenplay written by Richard Wenk and Lewis John Carlino. The first film also starred Jason Statham, with Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland and Mini Anden. The original was a moderate hit with viewers here in the states, but the film did do well overseas and on home-video charts. The Mechanic earned over $62M at the global box-office, with just over $29M domestically, and almost $33M internationally. The new film could see a higher gross, since Statham’s popularity has only risen since 2011, and the addition of Jessica Alba is sure to help the box-office as well. The first film also released in January, where as the genre usually does better in the summer.
Action-thriller fans can set a reminder to see the film in theaters this summer, Mechanic Resurrection launches in theaters on August 26, 2016.
