John Boyega to star in Pacific Rim 2
John Boyega will be following up his success in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with another sci-fi blockbuster, this time for the Pacific Rim franchise. The entire cast of the yet untitled Pacific Rim 2 has not been disclosed at this time, but the film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight and will be based on the world created by former director Guillermo del Toro and Travis Beacham.
Producing the film are Jon Jashni, Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, and del Toro. They will be joined by Boyega and Femi Oguns. Cale Boyter is serving as the film’s executive producer.
“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox. The ‘Pacific Rim’ universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world,” del Toro said in a statement. “‘The World saving the world’ was our goal and I couldn’t think of a better man for the job.”
“It is undeniable that with all his talent and natural charm, John stands out amongst today’s generation of young leading men,” said Mary Parent, Legendary’s vice chairman of worldwide production.
The next film, currently titled as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, will also star Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Max Martini. More information, a teaser trailer and a final casting assignment will be released by the studio over the next few weeks as the project moves closer to production.
