IFC confirmed today that Amanda Peet (Togetherness, The Good Wife, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) has joined the cast of the network’s upcoming comedy Brockmire.

The new series, from Funny Or Die, stars Hank Azaria as disgraced sportscaster Jim Brockmire, Azaria will also serve as the show’s executive producer.

In the series, Brockmire is trying to rebuild his life and career after an epic on-air meltdown cost him everything. This public event happened just after Brockmire discovered that his then-wife had been cheating on him. Now, a decade later, he decides to reclaim his career and love life in a small town, calling minor league baseball for the Morristown Frackers.

The season of eight 30-minute episodes will premiere on IFC in 2017.

Peet (shown above on Conan) will play Jules, “the strong-willed owner of a struggling minor league baseball team located in a small American rust belt town that has seen better decades,” according to IFC.

“Amanda will bring her extraordinary comedic sensibility to the role of Jules and her chemistry with Hank Azaria will be a home run for Brockmire,” said Jennifer Caserta, IFC president.

Brockmire originally appeared as a viral short video on the award-winning comedy website Funny Or Die. The series is written by Joel Church-Cooper (Undateable) and will be directed by Tim Kirkby (Veep). It will be executive produced by Azaria, Church-Cooper, Kirkby and Funny Or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell.

The off-beat comedy should be a good fit for IFC, which has found incredible success with series like Portlandia, Documentary Now!, Maron and Comedy Bang! Bang!. IFC is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.
