Melissa Benoist, Khandi Alexander join “Patriots Day”

Three more names have been added to “Patriots Day,” the castings were confirmed by CBS Films and Lionsgate .

The studio announced that Melissa Benoist (Whiplash, Supergirl), Emmy-nominee Khandi Alexander (Scandal, Treme) and Jake Picking (Goat, The Way Way Back) have joined Academy Award-nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Lone Survivor) and Golden Globe-winner John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane, Inside Llewyn Davis, Argo) in the upcoming film.

Also starring in “Patriots Day” are Academy Award-Winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Zootopia), Golden Globe-nominee Michelle Monaghan (True Detective, Gone Baby Gone), Golden Globe-winner Kevin Bacon (Black Mass, Mystic River), Michael Beach (The 100, Sons of Anarchy) and Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley, Criminal Minds).

They join the previous cast-members that include Vincent Curatola (The Good Wife, The Sopranos), Alex Wolff (In Treatment, Coming Through The Rye), James Colby (Limitless, Jessica Jones), Themo Melikidze (Faceless, Beautiful Something), Emmy-nominee Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, Woody Allen Amazon Project) and Christopher O’Shea (Madam Secretary, Point of Honor).

Patriots Day is being directed by Peter Berg (Deepwater Horizon, Lone Survivor) and produced by Scott Stuber, Mark Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky.

The film chronicles the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. Benoist is playing Katherine Russell, Alexander is playing a law enforcement interrogator and Picking is playing MIT Police Officer Sean Collier.

Patriots Day is being co-financed by CBS Films and Lionsgate with the former handling production and marketing and the latter handling distribution.
