The long-awaited Oliver Stone film “Snowden” is set to release later this year, and Open Roads Films has finally released a trailer.

Getting accustomed to Gordon-Levitt’s voice in the trailer takes some time, but once you get past it, things start to pick up. The film is the latest project from Academy Award winning director Oliver Stone, the same man that brought you “Platoon,” “Born on the Fourth of July,” “Wall Street” and “JFK.”

This time around Stone turns his talents on the story of Edward Snowden, a film that the studio teases as a “politically-charged, pulse-pounding thriller”. Joining Gordon-Levitt and Woodley in the film are Scott Eastwood, Nicolas Cage, Timothy Olyphant and Zachary Quinto.

The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, and centers on the untold personal story of Edward Snowden. There are many aspects of Snowden’s personal life that many people don’t know, including his years of military service before joining the C.I.A. which is a big part of this film. Snowden was the man responsible for exposing the illegal surveillance activities by the NSA, leaking the information to the press and becoming one of the country’s most-wanted men. The real Edward Snowden is seeking asylum in Russia. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on September 16, 2016.
