Amazon Studios will be featuring the “Neon Demon” at the 69th Cannes Film Festival this year, but you can get an early look at the cinematic marvel thanks to an early trailer for the film.
The “Neon Demon” is a very highly anticipated horror-thriller, mostly because it comes from the visionary director Nicolas Winding Refn, the same director that brought you “Drive” and “Only God Forgives”. Nicolas Winding Refn, Mary Laws and Polly Stenham wrote the film, which stars Jena Malone, Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, Elle Fannning, Abbey Lee, Bella Heathcote, Desmond Harrington and Karl Glusman
When asked ‘What is the Neon Demon” Jena Malone called it, “Otherworldly beauty, but [also] the dark underbelly of that.”
Keanu Reeves, who plays Hank in the film says, “There’s something about the light – you can call it artificial light, but I guess all light is artificial besides the sun – and the neon quality of it. [There’s] something about those colors that attracts and repulses at the same time. And then there’s the demon part. What is the demon within; what is the demon on the outside? Is it ego? It may be a fear of death. Or desire. It’s all sorts of fun stuff.”
Natasha Braier, the amazing Cinematographer on the film simply said, “It feels a little bit banal to try and explain,” adding “because it’s kind of the essence of the movie and whatever I say in English is going to sound very cheesy.”
The film picks up when aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles. It’s not long before her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.
The Neon Demon will make its premiere at the 69th Cannes Film Festival this month, it will then release in theaters in June 2016.
