The studios announced that Emmy-nominee Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards, Woody Allen Amazon Project) and Christopher O’Shea (Madam Secretary, Point of Honor) have joined Academy Award-nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Lone Survivor) in the upcoming film “Patriots Day”.

Already announced for the cast are Golden Globe-winner John Goodman (10 Cloverfield Lane, Inside Llewyn Davis, Argo), Academy Award-Winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Zootopia), Golden Globe-nominee Michelle Monaghan (True Detective, Gone Baby Gone) and Golden Globe-winner Kevin Bacon (Black Mass, Mystic River).

Other castings include Michael Beach (The 100, Sons of Anarchy), Jimmy O. Yang (Silicon Valley, Criminal Minds), Vincent Curatola (The Good Wife, The Sopranos), Alex Wolff (In Treatment, Coming Through The Rye), James Colby (Limitless, Jessica Jones) and Themo Melikidze (Faceless, Beautiful Something).

Patriots Day will be directed by Peter Berg (Deepwater Horizon, Lone Survivor) and produced by Scott Stuber, Mark Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky.

PATRIOTS DAY chronicles the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing. Brosnahan will play Jessica Kensky and O’Shea will play Patrick Downes. Newlyweds Kensky and Downes were at the finish line to cheer on Marathon runners the day of the bombings. Both survived but were seriously injured and their love and devotion for one another remains a beacon of inspiration today. “The Survivors are the heart of this story and Rachel and Christopher are bringing their immense talents and their respect for Jessica and Patrick’s extraordinary courage to the film,” commented Berg.

PATRIOTS DAY will be co-financed by CBS Films and Lionsgate with the former handling production and marketing and the latter handling distribution.

Innovative Artists, Carole Dibo Talent Mangement and Shreck Rose Dapello & Adams represent Rachel Brosnahan. Innovative Artists, Haven Entertainment and Todd Rubenstein represent Christopher O’Shea.

The film is currently in production in Boston and will open in Boston, New York and Los Angeles on December 21, 2016.
