Popular actor Amber Heard is the latest name added to the “Justice League” cast. Heard’s casting negotiations with Warner Bros. were reported earlier this year, but today the actor confirmed that she will be taking the role of Mera for at least two of DC’s super-hero films.
The casting announcement came as Heard discussed her part in the upcoming projects. Heard talked about her casting and the Mera costume in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight saying, “It’s interesting. I’m wearing, like, half suit of armor, half scales.” Heard went on to say, “we’re in the process of building it now. It’s coming along.”
The upcoming “Justice League Part One” installment will be directed by Zack Snyder. Warner Bros. Pictures has set aN April 11, 2017 release date for part-one of the expected two-part series, which will follow the events of “Batman vs. Superman” and the “Man of Steel” films.
“Justice League” will feature many of the same faces as both previous “Man of Steel” installments. The cast includes Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Joining them on screen will be Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Jason Momoa of “Game of Thrones” fame as Aquaman. The casting confirmation comes at a perfect time, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is set to release in theaters next week. As for that “Aquaman” film, that will be directed by James Wan of “Fast and the Furious” fame, and is currently set to release in July of 2018.
It’s important to point out that Mera is Aquaman’s wife in the comics, which is why Heard will be picking up the role in both the first “Justice League” film, and once again in the standalone “Aquaman” film expected to release later on.
More casting announcements and teasers are expected to be released over the next few weeks.
