Sony Pictures, in association with Ghost House Pictures, announced the title today for their upcoming (previously untitled) Fede Alvarez thriller, now called “DON’T BREATHE. The film had its world premiere at SXSW in Austin over the weekend to a packed house as part of the Midnighters series at the festival. The movie will open in theaters nationwide on August 26th.
In the terrifying thriller a group of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they’ll get away with the perfect heist. As you can imagine, this is where things go horribly wrong and the film plays-out from there.
DON’T BREATHE stars Jane Levy (EVIL DEAD), Dylan Minnette (GOOSEBUMPS), Daniel Zovatto (IT FOLLOWS), and Stephen Lang (AVATAR).
Many of the same team behind 2013’s EVIL DEAD are back, including director Fede Alvarez, writers Fede Alvarez & Rodo Sayagues, producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, and executive producers Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, and J.R. Young. In addition, Fede Alvarez is serving as producer and Erin Westerman and Mathew Hart are executive producers.
Ghost House Pictures has been a go-to studio for fans of horror-thrillers. The long standing studio has helped create seven #1 box office hits including THE GRUDGE and EVIL DEAD for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Ghost House Pictures was formed in 2002 by filmmakers Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake to create a production label dedicated to the financing, development and release of films in the horror thriller space.
With the release date and title all set, Sony Pictures should be releasing a few teasers for the horror-thriller over the next several weeks. Horror fans only have to wait until August 26th to catch the film in local theaters.
