It was reported today that Lena Dunham has been hospitalized, the star is suffering from a ruptured ovarian cyst that will require surgery.

The star has been very open about her condition in the past, raising awareness for others that suffer endometriosis. The rupture will force Dunham to undergo surgery, which is expected to take place today. It was just a few weeks ago that Dunham openly stated that because of her health issues with endometriosis she would be unable to do press for the sixth season of HBO’s hit series “Girls”. This will be the final season of the popular show, which stars Dunham. At this time Dunham’s spokesperson did not state how long the star would have to remain hospitalized.

People was one of the first outlets to report Dunham’s condition. Dunham’s spokesperson, Cindi Berger, stated, “Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis. This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital.”

Berger continued, “Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena’s privacy will be respected.”
