After months of touring the film-festival circuit, fans can finally get a terrific look at the new Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult film “Equals”. The official teaser-trailer was released by A24 Studios, showing off a bit of the highly anticipated new project from Drake Doremus.

Not only did Drake Doremus direct the film, he also wrote the screenplay. The film is bit of a nod to “Brave New World,” which was written by the great Aldous Huxley. Joining Stewart and Hoult in the film are Guy Pearce and Jacki Weaver.

The futuristic setting takes place in a world where emotions have been eradicated. While the film is a sci-fi romance, in its entirety the film offers a much more satisfying screenplay than many of these popular “futuristic utopia” films have done in recent history.

According to the producers, “The story takes place in a futuristic society where everyone has had their deepest feelings and emotions genetically deactivated to promote a more stable, violence-free culture. A portion of the population – including our star-crossed heroes – are immune to genetic manipulation which enables them to fall in love.”

The film first premiered at the Venice Film Festival back in 2015. Now almost a year later, A24 is set to release the film sometime in 2016. Critics and patrons praised the pairing of Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult when it hit the festival last year, and fans of the two actors will most likely be excited to see the two big-names share a new film together.

“Equals” was directed by Drake Doremus, a winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and the director of “Like Crazy” and “Moonpie”. Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and New York’s Route One Films produced the new project, Michael Pruss, Chip Diggins, Ann Ruark, Michael Schaefer and Jay Stern are attached as producers as well. John Guleserian was brought on as the film’s cinematographer.
