The holidays are a perfect time for a little “Frozen” celebration, and ABC will be airing a new holiday-themed special starring the popular cast.

The original film premiered in theaters in 2013 and since then it has broken records across multiple genres. The “Frozen” cast have appeared in ABC’s hit drama “Once Upon a Time,” Disney released a new short called “Frozen Fever” and there are several reports that a “Frozen 2” announcement will be made later this year or next.

Rumors aside, Disney did confirm that a new holiday special will air in 2017 and the original cast will be included. Disney made the confirmation on the Disney Blog stating, “While we don’t have too many details at the moment, we do know that Olaf, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Sven are all set to return.”

The special-event will be directed bt Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton (Prep & Landing, Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa), and will be produced by Roy Conli (Big Hero 6).

Oh and don’t worry about the voice-cast, Disney also stated that, “Members of the original voice cast including Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad will reprise their roles.”

Disney didn’t announce a title at this time, but you can expect the special to air on ABC before the 2017 holiday season.

In theater news, “Frozen” will be coming to Broadway with a pre-Broadway engagement is slated to kick off August 2017. Disney states, ‘The musical, based on Disney’s Academy Award-winning film, Frozen, will feature music and lyrics by songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Winnie the Pooh) and Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, Book of Mormon), who also wrote the music for the film. The story will be based on a book by the film’s screenwriter, Jennifer Lee.”

The casting decisions won’t be made for some time now, but Tony Award-winner Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher, Mozart in the Jungle), and Peter Darling (Billy Elliot, Matilda), will serve as director and choreographer respectively.

For scenic and costume designer Disney has chosen Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins), lighting designer will be Natasha Katz (Aladdin), and sound designer will be Peter Hylenski. The music supervisor will be Stephen Oremus (Avenue Q, Wicked, Book of Mormon).
