Disney is pulling out all the stops to celebrate 60 magical years at Disneyland in California. The company has been slowly announcing the live performances that will air during the televised special, which now includes Idina Menzel.
As a Tony Award-winning star of stage, film, television and music we probably don’t have to introduce you to Idina Menzel, who will be singing “Let It Go” during the event. The song of course is a multi-platinum, Grammy and Oscar-winning track from Walt Disney Pictures’ global box office smash-hit “Frozen.”
Menzel provided the voice of Elsa in the instant classic film with one of the most memorable soundtracks of the decade. Menzel will perform in Disney California Adventure Park against the backdrop of “World of Color,” the one-of-a-kind nighttime extravaganza. “The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60,” with Derek Hough as Master of Ceremonies, airs SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 21 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.
After Menzel’s performance of the multi-platinum song at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, she made history as the first person with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting. Menzel earned her first Tony nomination as Maureen in the Pulitzer Prize winner “Rent,” and won the award for her performance as Elphaba in “Wicked.”
Fans also got to see Menzel in “Glee” and Disney’s “Enchanted.” She embarked on a worldwide tour in 2015 that included Asia, UK and North America. In addition to cast albums, Menzel’s prolific recording career includes the solo albums “I Stand,” “Here” and “Still I Can’t Be Still.” Her first-ever Christmas album “Holiday Wishes,” released October 2014 on Warner Bros. Records, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Holiday Albums chart, broke into the top 10 on Billboard Top 200 Album Chart.
Menzel also co-founded the A BroaderWay Foundation in 2010. This organization is dedicated to offering girls from underserved communities an outlet for self-expression and creativity through arts-centered programs. The emphasis is on building self-esteem, developing leadership qualities and striving for personal and social achievement. In 2014, Menzel was recognized as one of Variety Magazine’s Power of Women honorees for her work with the organization.
