Following its successful run at this year’s Golden Globes Awards, IMAX and Twentieth Century Fox have announced plans to release New Regency’s “The Revenant” in IMAX theaters.
“The Revenant” was directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, the film will receive a special limited engagement in IMAX theatres domestically and across select international markets beginning Jan. 14.

Inspired by true events, The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. The Revenant is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award winner Alejandro G. Inarritu (Birdman, Babel).
IMAX talked about the release in an announcement released today stating, “The IMAX release of The Revenant is shown in its digitally re-mastered format, which includes the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.”
