Sundance hit “Animals” to premiere on HBO in February

Produced by Duplass Brothers Television, “Animals” was a terrific success at Sundance last year. The animated series has a wonderful cast supporting it, including the voice talents of Rob Corddry, Mark Duplass, Nick Kroll, Jason Mantzoukas and Molly Shannon.

The animated series was created by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano and as I mentioned earlier, it was produced by Duplass Brothers Television, who also served as EPs on the project.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch the initial premiere during Sundance, HBO picked up the series as an exclusive, and will premiere “Animals” later this winter.

The studio teases the story saying that it, “Focuses on the downtrodden creatures native to Earth’s least-habitable environment: New York City.” The studio went on to say, “Whether it’s lovelorn rats, gender-questioning pigeons or aging bedbugs in the midst of a midlife crisis, the awkward small talk, moral ambiguity and existential woes of non-human urbanites prove startlingly similar to our own.”

You can catch a short trailer of the project below, released before “Animals” hit Sundance last January.

The series was directed by Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano, Mark and Jay Duplass served as Executive Producers.
Josh Polon was attached as a producer as well, and Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano wrote the screenplay.

If you’re a fan of the voice-actors, animation or HBO, you should defiantly set a reminder to catch the project when it launches on HBO later this year. If you need to set a reminder, “Animals” hits HBO on Friday, February 5th at 11:30PM ET/PT.
