It’s like a thousand wishes coming true, a James Franco project is coming to Lifetime Originals. The popular actor, teacher, director and artist will be working with Lifetime and Sony Pictures Television in a new project, aimed at remaking a classic TV movie just as it turns twenty.

That film is “Mother, May I Sleep With Danger,” which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year. James Franco will remake the classic TV movie as a retelling of the cult classic. The original project came from Sony Pictures Television and the new special event will pay homage to the original film that continues to resonate in pop culture today. The film comes on the heels of Lifetime’s successful and most buzzed about movie event of 2015, A Deadly Adoption, starring Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with Rabbit Bandini Productions, Mother, May, I Sleep with Danger? will air on Lifetime in 2016. With a story by Franco, the script is written by Amber Coney and will be directed by Melanie Aitkenhead. Franco will executive produce with Vince Jolivette, Diane Sokolow and Rachel Verno.
