NVIDIA Shield tablet K1 updates to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, grabs Fallout Shelter

Millions of eager players will be hooking up their NVIDIA Shields for the first time this holiday season, and when they do, they will be have the chance to download a pretty fantastic update.

Not only will fans get to experience the 192-core GPU and full HD 1080p display that the NVIDIA Shield has to offer, a new update on the SHIELD tablet K1 will offers the features and functionality of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This includes, Now on Tap, adoptable storage, improved app permissions and App Standby.

That’s not the only new features and upgrades that are coming to the K1 this year. There will also be a new NVIDIA SHIELD Camera app. The company stated, “We’re adding a new camera app to SHIELD tablet K1, with a user interface inspired by Material Design. It brings improved burst photo functionality and adds new real-time HD image effects, accelerated by Tegra K1’s Kepler-based GPU.”

Fans of Fallout Shelter and their Bonus Lunchboxes will be happy to know that Bethesda’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic world, Fallout Shelter, is part of the upgrade. As a bonus, the first 50,000 SHIELD tablet K1 gamers can score five free lunchboxes, each containing four Fallout Shelter cards for in-game currency, consumables and more.

There will also be a few User Interface upgrades as well to explore. The company described the new additions stating, “Personalize Home and Lock screens with different wallpapers, including new NVIDIA wallpapers. You can launch Google Now voice commands from the lock screen. And you can personalize your Quick Settings menu, adding, removing or rearranging toggles.”
