Earlier this year at Sundance after screening “The Bronze,” I felt that it was so amazing I told everyone that it would be one of the most talked about comedies to release this year. Unfortunately, the film’s release was put into question when Relativity Media went into bankruptcy and the year 2015 was denied the wonderful performances of Melissa Rauch, Gary Cole, Haley Lu Richardson and SNL’s Cecily Strong.
Now Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the domestic rights to the film and will release it in March of 2016. With the new release date, the studio also released a red-band trailer for the film. The NSFW is a perfect teaser, considering that it’s for an adult comedy that might shock a few “Big Bang Theory” fans.
The film follows a foul-mouthed former gymnastics, played to perfection by Rauch. The character is a bronze medalist and the win helped her to become the star of her small town. Now her local celebrity status is threatened as a young athlete rises in popularity, taking the spotlight off her career and her former achievements.
Bryan Buckley directed the film, which was co-written by the talented duo that is Melissa and Winston Rauch. Sony Pictures Classics stopped short of announcing an exact release date at this time but the film is scheduled for March 2016 at this point.
