One of Nintendo’s most promising new additions are the amiibo figures and collecting the add-ons has become a big hit with fans. While popular, this make some of newer additions pretty difficult to acquire and websites are balancing easy-ordering with restrictive buying when shopping online. Sites like Best Buy, Toys R Us and Amazon often offer exclusive amiibo figures, but even the standard sets can be hard to acquire, so many of them sellout in minutes.
Today the Chibi-Robo amiibo goes on sale and Amazon knows that it will sellout in just a matter of moments. New characters are being added to Nintendo’s lineup on a pretty standard basis, so the addition of the Chibi-Robo amiibo isn’t exactly a holiday-spectacular but it is in high-demand. As more exclusive items are released, retailers are cracking down on individuals that are buying-up figures just to sell them on third-party sites like eBay. They can’t stop everyone from doing it but they are taking steps to make it as fair as possible.
Amazon itself emailed customers today regarding the upcoming release of new Chibi-Robo amiibo stating, “Purchases are limited to 2 per customer, and 1-Click Ordering will be enabled for these items.” Other sites like Toys R Us have similar restrictions when buying online. In the same email Amazon tells customers, “We have ample quantities of the amiibo, but do expect to sell out.” The company added “Demand is expected to be very high, and there’s no guarantee that it will remain in stock for long.”
With dozens of amiibos to choose from, starting out is certainly easier than upping your arsenal. Today’s Chibi-Robo amiibo will certainly sellout in minutes as well, but if you’re lucky you can might just be able to grab one.
