Netgear’s Arlo Q 1080p Security Camera offers updated features, free cloud storage

NETGEAR introduced the Arlo Q 1080p HD Security Camera with Audio today, offering 1080p high-definition video and two-way communication. The new device features a 4-megapixel-image sensor and built-in night vision. Each Arlo Q camera also offers two-way audio so you can listen in on any room in the house, from the nursery to the family room, talk with anyone there, and receive alerts on iOS and Android devices when sounds are detected.

Unlike other cameras on the market, the Arlo Q will offer seven days of free video cloud storage, a terrific option considering most services make you pay for anything more than 24hr cloud-storage. The Arlo Q will make sure yout motion-triggered recordings are automatically saved for later viewing.

The Arlo Q is AC-powered and connects directly to any existing WiFi network. Customers will be able to customize sound or motion alerts, access live video feeds, and watch previously recorded videos from their mobile devices as well.

“With Arlo Q, our goal is to deliver an incredible end-to-end experience that leaves you feeling as though you are right there in your home, even though you may be a world away,” said Pat Collins, vice president of smart home products at NETGEAR. “In addition to Arlo Q’s amazing HD video and audio quality, we are excited to be adding a new set of powerful software features to the Arlo platform, including motion zones, continuous video recording, and digital zoom, that will even further enhance the Arlo experience. And by combining Arlo Q with our 100% wire-free cameras, we now provide you with the only solution on the market that easily covers every angle of your home or business – indoors and outdoors, day and night, all from the same app.”

Using a 130-degree wide-angle lens, Arlo Q can see entire rooms from corner to corner. Multiple mounting options —desktop, magnetic, or wall mounts— mean you can place your cameras wherever they’re needed.

To enable seamless video streaming and uninterrupted cloud recording, Arlo Q uses dual band WiFi for maximum wireless range and performance without interference. Fast access to all your cameras —whether Arlo Q or Arlo Wire-Free— is provided by the free Arlo app, which also puts your library of previously recorded videos in your pocket.

With Arlo Q’s free basic video cloud storage plan, both motion- and sound-triggered videos are always stored in the cloud for seven days at no cost to customers, a level of service unequaled in the industry. Also available for an additional fee is Arlo Q’s optional Continuous Video Recording plan (CVR plan), which continuously records everything your cameras see 24/7 and securely stores this non-stop video feed in the cloud. You can rewind any camera to any point in time and track activity around the clock at your convenience.

“Arlo Q packages the elements that consumers value for home security into a well-designed product,” said Stuart Sikes, president of Parks Associates, a market research and consulting company specializing in emerging consumer technology products and services. “Arlo Q addresses consumer desire for visual quality with enhanced audio and cloud capabilities. The Arlo platform fuels the growing do-it-yourself smart home security market.”
