Gosling, Bale, Carell hit AFI Fest to premiere “The Big Short”

One of the big-ticket items featured at the AFI Festival this year was “THE BIG SHORT.” The film offers a fantastic cast of high-profile actors, working with a director that has created a few of the best comedies of the last decade.

The film premiered Thursday night and the cast and crew came to celebrate the event. “The Big Short” is based on the book written by Michael Lewis (The Blind Side, Moneyball). The story follows four outsiders, who foresee the market collapse that brought America’s economy to its knees. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. The film was directed by Adam Mckay (Anchorman, Step Brothers) and stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. Charles Randolph and Adam McKay co-wrote the screenplay to the film. McKay has worked on his share of dramatic projects but it’s his comedies that have garnered the most attention during his time as a director. Not only has McKay directed Will Ferrell hits like Anchorman and Step Brothers, he also directed Ferrell to glory in films like The Other Guys, his short The Landlord and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Paramount Pictures released the first trailer for the film earlier this year. With over 2.1M views on YouTube in just over a month, it’s heading into award season with a lot of fanfare behind it.

Louise Rosner-Meyer and Kevin Messick served as executive producers on the project, which had Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Arnon Milchan serving as producers. With an all-star cast and a stellar original piece to work with, the film was well-received throughout the event. Paramount Pictures and Regency Enterprises will release the film nationwide on December 11, 2015.
