Fans of the adult-comedy “Bad Santa” can look forward to a new installment starring Billy Bob Thornton, once again taking the lead as a terrible Santa. Both Miramax and Broad Green Pictures confirmed that Billy Bob Thornton would be reprising his role as Willie Soke, this time in a film currently called “Bad Santa 2.”

Producing “Bad Santa 2” will be Geyer Kosinski, Miramax and Broad Green Pictures are set to co-finance and co-produce the project. Distributing the film for the 2016 season will be Broad Green, that’s for the U.S. distribution.

“We’ve been waiting far too long to see Billy Bob’s Willie Soke mess with the holiday season in his own unique way,” said Zanne Devine of Miramax during today’s announcement.

The film currently has a 2016 release date, most-likely around the holidays to match the film’s theme. Principal photography is set to begin as early as this January, the film will be shot in Montreal.

As for the original “Bad Santa,” that film released back in 2003 and grossed an estimated $60 million domestically. Bernie Mac and Lauren Graham starred in the film with Billy Bob Thornton. The original was directed by Terry Zwigoff, workign off a script written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. A release date, casting choices and other information on the film will be released as the studio begins production.
