New Harry Potter play “The Cursed Child” is the eighth story
A few new details have revealed the timeline for the upcoming Harry Potter play set to premiere in the summer of 2016, with the events of the plot taking place after the final installment to the original series.
In new play from J.K. Rowling, the storyline will feature Harry Potter and his son, who we know as Albus Severus Potter. He was named after the two-best Headmasters of Hogwarts after all.
More specifically, the timeline of the new play will take place 19 years after Harry Potter and his friends fought Voldemort. It was Rowling that described the play, called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, as the, “eighth story in the series.” Rowling made the statement on her popular Facebook page earlier today.
On the official website of the show the description of the plot states that Harry is an, “an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.”
“While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs,” the description adds, “his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.”
Th play is also child-friendly in the sense that it will be broken into two parts when it hits the theater. Ticket holders will have the choice to watch both parts in a single-day or break it up into two, adjusting the length to fit the finest of attention spans. The show opens at the Palace Theatre in London on July 30, and tickets will go on sale this Wednesday.
