Director releases first-look at “War for the Planet of the Apes” production

Earlier this month production began on “War For The Planet Of The Apes” and the director is already teasing the film on social-media. Matt Reeves, who also directed “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” released the photo shown above on Twitter this week, getting fans excited for the next big-release from the popular franchise.

The behind-the-scenes photo offers a quick-look at one beautiful moment from the set, with a seemingly endless Canadian landscape highlighting the actors. At least one of the actors is wearing a motion-capture suit, which have become a staple in the franchise since the first film. The project has been another terrific hit for Andy Serkis, who has become the leading authority on motion-capture acting since his days on “Lord of the Rings”. In this franchise Serkis plays the role of Caesar, leader of the Ape rebellion.

The photo was taken on a beach in Vancouver, somewhat reminiscent of the ending from the 1968 version “Planet of the Apes” staring Charlton Heston, Roddy Mcdowell and Kim Hunter.

Joining Reeves in “War For The Planet Of The Apes” will be Michael Giacchino, the same composer that scored “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in 2014. That installment starred Gary Oldman, Keri Russell and Andy Serkis.

Mark Bomback wrote the script for the film, which of course is based on the work of novelist Pierre Boulle. It was confirmed earlier this year that the new installment will add Woody Harrelson to the franchise, Andy Serkis and Steve Zahn will also star in the film.

Fans still have a long wait for the next installment, “War For the Planet of the Apes” will hit theaters on July 14, 2017.
