Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp gets a release date, three films get future dates
Marvel had a few announcements to share with fans of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” this morning, including a sequel “Ant-Man”.
Paul Rudd is expected to return for another “Ant-Man” film for Marvel, the studio announced earlier today that a sequel to the popular summer-blockbuster will be part of “Phase 3” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As of right now Rudd has not been formally confirmed as returning, but many in the industry assume that a follow-up film was part of Rudd’s initial deal to the take-on the role.
As of right now the sequel is called “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” and the film is scheduled to release on July 8, 2018. This will be the first time that “The Wasp” will be featured on-screen, assuming that the character doesn’t pop-up in any previously announced films as a surprise for Marvel fans.
In the comics, The Wasp is a superhero that also goes by the name Hope van Dyne (played in Ant-Man by Evangeline Lilly), she inherits the name of the Wasp from her mother, Janet van Dyne.
That wasn’t the only surprise Marvel had for fans, the studio also announced two scheduling changes and three new films dates. Marvel’s “Black Panther” will move forward to February 16, 2018 and “Captain Marvel” will now premiere on March 8, 2019.
Marvel wouldn’t release the names of the three new films but the studio did give them release dates. The three new films are set for May, July and November of 2020.
