Meet the new Disney Princess from “Moana”, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho
We were first introduced to the details of Disney’s “MOANA” back at the Disney D23 EXPO earlier this year. At that time Dwayne Johnson (“San Andreas,” “Furious 7,” HBO’s “Ballers”) was one of two lone-names on the cast-list along with Alan Tudyk.
Earlier today, Disney confirmed the voice-actor behind the newest addition to the popular Disney Princess line, and her name is Auli’i Cravalho. The actor is a native Hawaiian and this will be her first role as a Disney Princess.
Johnson is voicing the mighty demigod ‘Maui’ in the highly anticipated Walt Disney Studios production, and Auli’i Cravalho is voicing the titular character “Moana”.
The film is being directed by John Musker and Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin) and will be produced by Osnat Shurer.
At the event earlier this year, Disney shared a few clips from the film’s test footage but it was enough to get an incredible reaction from the audience. This morning however, Disney had a lot more to share.
Disney spoke about the plans for the film’s release at D3 2015, including the November release date for the film. The studio also spoke about the inspiration for the traditional music and the extraordinary team that will be working on the score of the film.
Leading the team will be Tony winner Lin Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,“In the Heights”) and Grammy winning composer Mark Mancina (“Speed”, “Tarzan”’“The Lion King”). Also onboard for the project is Opetaia Foa’i (founder and lead singer of the world-music award winning band Te Vaka).
The story follows a spirited teenager who sets out to prove herself and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest.
Along the way she meets the once mighty demigod ‘Maui’ (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage. The film is set to hit U.S. theaters on November 23,2016.
