FOX’s upcoming film “War of the Planet of the Apes” has added its villain, newcomer to the series Woody Harrelson. The film won’t be ready for almost two-years at this point but a few details about the project have already been established.

Directing the eight installment to the long-running film and television franchise is Matt Reeves. He will be working off a script written by Mark Bomback and the work is based off the Pierre Boulle novel. Gabriel Chavarria and Andy Serkis are expected to join the project, as is Woody Harrelson. Producing the film are Chernin Entertainment and Dylan Clark but production on the new movie isn’t scheduled to begin until later this fall. FOX has set a July 14, 2017 release date for the new film.

As of right now all that we know about Harrelson’s character is that he is called the Colonel. Gabriel Chavarria’s role for the film is even more secretive at this point.

The franchise has been a stellar success for FOX, a tentpole that the studio will be leaning heavily on after it’s recent flops. The latest installment was called “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” the film managed to scare-up over $700M at the global box-office. The first film in the rebooted franchise landed in 2011, that film was called “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”.

Harrelson will of course also be seen in the final “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay pt. 2” which hits theaters across the globe on November 20, 2015.
