Another celebrity marriage has called it quits this year. Earlier today Avril Lavigne and Nickleback’s Chad Kroeger announced that the two singers have decided to part ways. The duo have been married for past two years but in the end they have decided to part ways. This is the second marriage for Lavigne, who was once married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley.
Lavigne made the confirmation on Instagram, a new low for social-sharing media. Avril posted picture of her and her soon to be ex from their wedding day. Lavigne thanked her friends and fans for their support through the years and stated that she will remain “best of friends” with the Nickelback frontman.
“It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today,” she wrote. “Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.”
Lavigne and Kroeger were married back in 2013, a summer wedding that had Avril dressed all in black. It was a relatively small wedding, with an estimated 50 guests located in a castle in the south of France.
Avril has been in the headlines for a few reasons these past few years, but none of them about music. The popular singer was diagnosed with Lyme Disease back in 2014, which put her music career on hold. The duo had been dodging divorce rumors for the past few months, which apparently were very true.
“Lyme disease does exist. And you can get better.” Avril, who is halfway through her treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, told “Good Morning America.” “I think for me it’s like a second chance at life. I want to go out there and truly do what I love. I’m excited for life after this.”
