Disney dates Toy Story 4 and it’s a love story
Technically every “Toy Story” film is a type of love-story we know, but the new film will be different form the three previous installments. In the past, the “Toy Story” franchise has tackled the love between a boy and his childhood toys, while other films focus on the love between great friends but the next “Toy Story” film will be a romantic love-story.
Pixar Animation Studios’ John Lasseter, who’s one of Pixar’s three founders, was joined on stage at this year’s D23 Expo this week by several award-winning artists and filmmakers. Those guests included Pete Docter (“Inside Out,” “Up”), Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL!E”), Lee Unkrich (“Coco,” “Toy Story 3”), Josh Cooley (“Cars 2,” “Ratatouille”) and Galyn Susman (“Toy Story 4,” ABC’s “Toy Story OF TERROR!”).
The team was there to celebrate the 20 years anniversary of “Toy Story,” a film that transformed the animation industry and the art of storytelling. Later, the Pixar team welcomed two-time Oscar winning songwriter and longtime Pixar collaborator Randy Newman, whose Pixar credits include “Toy Story,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Toy Story 2,” “Monsters, Inc.” and “Cars.”
Also joining in the celebration were writers Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (“Celeste & Jesse Forever”), who are part of the “Toy Story 4” team.
Disney stopped short of releasing all of the details for Buzz and Woody’s return to the big screen, but we do know that Little Bo Peep will be coming back in a big way when “Toy Story 4” hits theaters. “Each of the stories is a different genre,” Lasseter said during the event. Lasseter then added, “Toy Story 4 is a love story. It’s a love story between Woody and Bo Peep. Bo’s returned for Toy Story 4. Woody and Buzz head out to find Bo. It’s a very, very emotional story, and it’s very fun doing a story about [those two characters].”
“Toy Story 4,” which will be directed by Lasseter and produced by Susman and is scheduled to release on June 16, 2017.
