Benicio Del Toro in talks to play villain in Star Wars Episode VIII
Disney has yet to release “Star Wars: Episode VII’ and the world is already looking towards ‘Episode VIII’. The untitled Star Wars film has reportedly offered famed actor Benicio Del Toro a chance to play one of the unannounced villains of the project.
Multiple online and television sources have reported that early negotiations are already underway to include Del Toro in the new Star Wars film.
Episode VIII is the follow-up to the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” set to release in December of this year. Rian Johnson is directing Episode VIII, he also wrote the screenplay for the film. The project is scheduled to release on May 26, 2017.
Fans of Del Toro most likely remember him from a number of high-profile films including “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” with Johnny Depp and the film that won him an Academy Award for best supporting actor called “Traffic.” That film was from Steven Soderbergh.
Disney has not released an official statement on the report and will most likely not comment on the casting negotiations.
While casting is still in its very early stages, “Star Wars: Episode VIII” is expected to start shooting by next year. Ram Bergman and Kathy Kennedy are producing the film.
Del Toro has a new film coming out as well, he will star alongside Emily Blunt in the crime-drama from Denis Villeneuve called “Sicario.” Del Toro is playing the role of Alejandro in that project. The script was written by Taylor Sheridan.
