A headline so depressing it could become a country-music song, popular artist and power-couple Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert have filed for divorce. This according to a statement that the duo have released to the Associated Press.
“This is not the future we envisioned,” their representatives said in the public statement. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
It was just a few years ago, back in 2005, that Shelton and Lambert met at the CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets concert. After dating for a few years and a selling a few million-records as a solo-act, the two were married in 2011 to the delight of fans all around the world. The highly publicized wedding took place in Boerne, Texas.
Since then, the two have appeared together countless times, performing together on stage and even co-writing one of Lambert’s popular songs “Over You.” The song later won the 2012 CMA song of the year.
Fans of country music will surely be saddened by the sudden split, but both artists will be back on stage and selling records and hosting TV shows in no time.
