Nintendo President Satoru Iwata dies at 55
Nintendo has confirmed that long-standing CEO and President of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, has passed away at the age of 55. Satoru Iwata will be remembered as one of the pillars of the video-game industry, not just for Nintendo, but as one of the pivotal driving forces that made gaming what is today.
Satoru Iwata’s health had been in decline for the last few months, his death is being linked to a bile duct growth. That would be the same growth that caused Satoru Iwata to skip E3 this past year.
Nintendo has confirmed Satoru Iwata’s passing, but out of respect for the family, is not going into any details at this time. We will not be following-up with any new details of the death for the same reason.
Nintendo’s official statement reads, “Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.” The company then added, “As a result, the following two Representative Directors remain at the company. Genyo Takeda (Representative Director; Senior Managing Director) Shigeru Miyamoto and (Representative Director; Senior Managing Director).”
