SDCC: Lily James, Matt Smith hype Pride and Prejudice and Zombies ahead of winter premiere

One of the more interesting panels at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con was for “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” the upcoming film-adaptation based on the bestselling novel of the same name.

The film was directed by Burr Steers and stars Lily James, Sam Riley and Bella Heathcoate in a fantastic retelling of the literary classic from the mind of author Seth Grahame-Smith. The screenplay adaptation is written by five-time Academy Award-nominee David O. Russell (SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, AMERICAN HUSTLE), Marti Noxon, executive producer and writer of the cult hit television series BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and director Burr Steers.

A publishing phenomenon, the novel PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES parodies Jane Austen’s original classic by adding “unmentionables,” or zombies, to such beloved characters as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. The book was an instant success, selling more than 1.5 million copies, appearing on the New York Times Bestseller List for more than 41 weeks, and spawning not just prequel and sequel novels but an entire industry of horror parodies.

The comic-con panel was filled with Zombie-lovers of all ages, including key members of the cast and crew. Fans in attendance were the first to see the trailer for the film, which debuted at the Screen Gems panel earlier this week in Hall H. That trailer will be released over the next few days/weeks.

Joining Lily James, Sam Riley and Bella Heathcoate in the film are Matt Smith, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston and Lena Headey. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will hit theaters Feb. 5, 2016.
