SDCC 2015: Once Upon a Time season 5 teases Brave’s Merida and dark Emma
Move over “Frozen,” Disney and Pixar’s film “Brave” is the new franchise coming to ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” for season five. The network made the confirmation earlier today during the OUAT panel at Comic-Con, confirming that the popular Scottish princess Merida will be the next major character to join the family-drama next season.
On-hand at the event were the show’s executive producers, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, that unveiled a short teaser-trailer for fans in attendance. A quick shot at the masterful archery skills of Merida were highlighted during the video, the character was hooded and shown splitting an arrow with her own in a very ‘Robin Hood’ manner before unveiling the character’s famous red and unruly hair.
The upcoming season will be the fifth in the series, in attendance this year were Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Morrison, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Emilie de Ravin, Colin O’Donoghue, Sean Maguire and Rebecca Mader.
Fans also got a chance to see the new Emma, or the “Dark Swan,” as she will be referred to quite often. In season four we saw Emma become the new Dark One in order to save the town.
During the Panel Morrison spoke about the character change, admitting that was looking forward to playing a dark character for a change of pace.
Morrison told the fans, “I’m really excited. As an actor to start season five of a show doing something brand new is exciting… now I get to try something totally new and different and get to have the fun that these guys are having,” looking at Parrilla and Carlyle.
She later said, “There is some fun to the villainy, I’ve spent the whole hiatus digging out my thoughts about it… Emma went through a lot in her life, she’s always tried to be a good person and now she’s tethered to the darkness she’s free of that. I feel like she’s going to face some of the darkness and figure out how to overcome it and not just suppress it.”
“Once Upon a Time” stars Ginnifer Goodwin as Snow White/Mary Margaret, Jennifer Morrison as Emma Swan, Lana Parrilla as the Evil Queen/Regina, Josh Dallas as Prince Charming/David, Emilie de Ravin as Belle, Colin O’Donoghue as Hook, Rebecca Mader as Zelena/Wicked Witch, Sean Maguire as Robin Hood and Robert Carlyle as Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold. Executive producers are Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Steve Pearlman and David H. Goodman. “Once Upon a Time” is produced by ABC Studios.
Fans won’t have to wait too long before the “Once Upon a Time” season five premieres airs on ABC, the new season starts on September 27, 2015
