Just a few more months and the beloved BBC series “Sherlock” will be back on the air. It’s been a long while since we last checked in on Sherlock and Watson, played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman respectively, but the duo are the centerpieces behind the BBC’s latest teaser.
The image (shown above) was released by the network in the early hours on Thursday and fans of the show went into a frenzy of retweets and exclamation points at the surprise.
The picture would make Sir Arthur Conan Doyle proud we think, with the two actors wearing Victorian outfits. Both actors were photographed with little to no expression on their faces but our faces lit up when the picture was released. The only notable difference from the previous season, besides the attire, is the wonderful upgrade to Watson’s mustache.
The show has become once of the BBC’s most popular series, debuting on the BBC in the U.K. in 2010, it later premiered here in the U.S. on PBS. The only downside to the teaser is that the network did not set a release date for the new season’s premiere, or for the Christmas episode for that matter.
While the Christmas episode is usually a special event that airs around the holiday season, fans are still waiting for the premiere date of the next season. More information on that premiere will be announced over the next few months.
The picture above was released with the caption, “Shut up everybody, shut up! Don’t move, don’t speak, don’t breathe. A new #Sherlock Special image has landed…”
